BoneFit
The BoneFit program is an education and exercise program for those with osteoporosis. The program is 2x per week for 6 weeks and is specifically designed to help improve bone health and reduce bone mineral density loss. During the program participants will learn how to begin resistance training to build skeletal muscle mass. In a small group setting, there will be gradual exercise progressions to ensure that you are training at an appropriate intensity. We will work on upper body and lower body strengthening, weight bearing activities as well as balance exercises to prevent future falls.
Throughout the sessions participants will learn:
- What is osteoporosis, risk factors and symptoms
- Current available treatments for osteoporosis
- How to self-manage your symptoms
- Why and how exercise can help your osteoporosis
- How to implement resistance training to build skeletal muscle mass
- How to cope with the difficulties of daily activities associated with osteoarthritis
- How to maintain control of your movements and ensure correct posture while exercising.
- How to build muscular strength through functional exercise
- How to apply these exercises to everyday activities.
At Ortho PT, the BoneFit program is lead by our physiotherapist who has been BoneFit certified.
